HOLA CHILE

Llegar a Chile es siempre algo muy especial y más aún ver y tocar a quellos que no hemos visto por algún tiempo. Siempre me tocó cruzar los Andes desde Argentina por avión. Esta vez, nos armamos de valor y la cruzamos por Perú pero, en bus... nunca más!! Dos días y medio viajando, no fué de lo más grato. El desierto nos atrapó y no parábamos de beber agua.

Arriving in Chile is always very special because we can reunite with family and friends that we have not seen for a while. I always crossed The Andes from Buenos Aires, Argentina by airplane... this time we became braver and we crossed to Chile by Perú but... by bus, two and a half days... never again!! The desert was something I did not expect and we did not stop drinking water.

"Mote con huesillos", is a typical Chilean non alcoholic drink and dessert.
It is made from husked wheat (mote), mixed with sun-dried peach (huesillo) that have been rehydrated in water for hours. The water in which the peaches were rehydrated is mixed with some sugar, and the wheat is mixed in a glass with the peaches and the peach-flavored sweetened water.

This drink is usually sold on streets, from carts and stands, during the summertime. The boiled wheat and huesillos are also bought in markets for domestic preparation.

ADVENTURES IN GUATEMALA

Our arriving in Guatemala was a bit hectic. Waiting for our luggage to arrive from Mexico. It was not in our flight. We had to wait until midnight for the next flight. Aww! it was so nice to see our bags again. Antonia kindly was cheering us up with her beautiful music.
Nuestra llegada fué un poco difícil. Esperando nuestro equipaje que no llegó en el vuelo. Tuvimos que esperar hasta la media noche en el aeropuerto por el próximo. Qué grato fué ver nuestros bolsos otra vez. antonia amablemente tratándo de alegrarnos el momento con su linda música.

Guatemala Square has beautiful buildings but the city looks very poor and some areas very dirty. We didn´t feel at all safe wondering around so we made it very short.

some of the activities were amusing. Walking on glass and blowing fire. The most amusing was the talk and demonstrations about sex which we didn´t feel right taking a photo of it.

They have deep political issues.

In the middle of the worst area in the city of Guatemala, we found a safe refuge to wait for our bus to depart for Las Flores- TIKAL. Their office was in front of this Hotel. Here we ate, and we had an enjoyable time listening to Paulo´s sexy voice and where Enrique got romantic and asked him to play special songs for Anne. it got quite lively once we got up to dance and everyone else joined us.

Relaxing time was vital after as it was really difficult to try to have a fair price for buses and taxis. They always try to charge three times more for foreigners.

The ladies here in Ocampo make beautiful hand made statues in paper mache. I really wanted to buy one but it would not stand up to the trip.

Patzcuaro, they say is the crown jewel of Michoacan. It is a lovely colonial city filled with serene plazas, impressive churches with cobbled streets. It is a wonderful place to explore, relax and just watch the local activity.

Copper Canyon Trail - Creel to Mochis

The Tarahumara Indians have made this area their home for hundreds of years, having been dislocated from lower terrain by the Spanish, among others. Here in the Sierra Madre Mountains, the difficult terrain helped protect their indiginous culture and language.
Los indígenas Tarahumara han hecho estas tierras su casa por cientos de años, habiendo sido echados de sus bajas tierras por la llegada de los Españoles, entre otros. Aquí en las Montañas de la Sierra Madre, el dificil acceso del terreno les ha ayudado a conservar su cultura indígena y su leguage.

Until 1961 when the railroad was completed, the only way to access the interior was on foot or on horseback. Recently a paved road was put through to the town of Creel, but Batopilas, Urique and other old communities at the bottom of the canyons remain accessible only via narrow dirt roads with tight switchbacks, often damaged by rain or landslides.
En 1961 cuando fué completado, la única manera de acceder al interior era a pié o a caballo. Recientemente se pavimentaron una autovía que lleva hacia el centro de Creel, pero Batopilas, Urique y otres comunidades al fondo de los barrancos permanece accesible solo a través de angostos senderos que de vez en cuando son dañados por la lluvia.

Antonia and Thomas were fascinated with the landscape and slow enough for them to stick their heads out at the window between the carriages.

Mexicans are very honest and very polite. We had our Sunday service on the train singing a few hymns with a group of Evangelic. They even tuned Antonia´s guitar.
Los Mexicanos son muy honestos y educados. Hasta asistimos a nuestro "servicio Dominical" cantando himnos alabando a Dios con un grupo de Evangélicos, hasta afinaron la guitarra de Antonia.

AMERICANS

BIG is the word to describe these guys. Everything is big. Cars, vans, glass of cokes, turkey legs, motorways, people, etc. It is also a very stimulant country. Television, weather, news, McCain, Obama, soap operas..uf!
We got tired in Disney. Specially in Magic Kingdom... t o o m u c h ! ! we feel over stimulated and we wanted to have a break. Children wanted to come back to the flat because they could not cope with everything, Simply.

On the other hand Americans are FAB people; mind you, I am not talking about Puerto Ricans, Cubans or Africans. That is another story. For example, at Kennedy Space Center you can see how proud they are about their commitments in making real their dreams. Anne and I were touched by their spirit of moving forward. They are proud about their achievements.

Our taxi to Newcastle was at 4:00 am. Anne and I decided not going to bed. Lots of things to do in the house still. The quantity of rubbish was huge. Eight years!!!!
Nuestro taxi fué a las 4 am. Anita y yó decidimos no ir a dormir, aún teníamos n cosas que hacer.

Hola a todos y bienvenidos a nuestro blog.

Well, here we are surviving ourselves with the stress of moving but at the same time enjoying it too. We feel quite positive about this new adventure. My major mental benefit is that we will leave behind our long and dark winters that in the last two years they made our life a bit heavy. Gosh! this weather is for tough people NOT FOR THIS WIMP FOREIGNERS!!!! Become English has not helped to overcome this feeling though.

Y aquí estamos con el stress de lo que es cambiar de país. Creemos que es lo mejor para nosotros, además es nuestra nueva aventura. mi mayor beneficio mental es que dejaremos estos largos y oscuros inviernos que en los últimos tres años han hecho mi vida un poco pesada. Estos inviernos son para gente brava yó no estoy para soportar más estos cuentos de tanta oscuridad invernal. Haber adoptado la nacionalidad Inglesa no ha ayudado tampoco.

Anyway, this holidays, will be the "healthy transition" we need to start our new life down under. They were designed to give "a sense of space" to our tired brain cells for a while.
En todo caso, estas vacaciones serán una saludable transición para después comenzar una nueva vida en Australia.

Today is September 3. Thomas: "I am really excited to go on this amazing journey. I feel very lucky to be going on this trip; I am very happy to have all this experience. Also I get to spend time with my family in Chile. I am looking forward to go Disneyland, Florida. I think it will be one of the highlights of the trip".

Thomas: " Estoy muy nervioso de empezar este viaje increíble y muy feliz de tener esta experiencia. También tendré la oportunidad de pasar un tiempo con mi otra familia en Chile. También estoy ya queriendo estar en Disneylandia, Florida. Pienso eso que será una de las partes importantes de mi viaje."

Antonia y Thomas, their first "car boot- sale". It was amazing the tons of rubbish they had and what they sold. tuvieron su primer "car-bootsale". Increíble el montón de cachureos que tuvieron para vender y lo peor de todo es que vendieron n cosas.

Septiembre 23, Today, around 10:30pm the movers arrived. Eight years are being packed today and tomorrow. Boxes everywhere! exciting. Anne urged me to frame a photo for one of our good friends and she let it on the window ready to pick it up later... we have to send it from Australia back to the UK!!!

September 24, what a day... it's all gone!!!
